David Gardner

Era:
-David Gardner earned a PhD at the Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama at the University of Toronto.1 While his influence at the time was less obvious, Gardner took on the role of directing Macbeth in 2002-2003 and As You Like It in 2003-2004 seasons.2 In addition to his time directing at the theatre, Gardner was another one of the members involved in the Hart House Theatre Campaign and organized the Alum Gala for the opening night of the campaign.3 Gardner described the Theatre as “the cradle of Canadian theatre, as opposed to the touring theatre which was very much en vogue around the end of the First World War: [Hart House] was a theatre devoted to Canadian community theatre.”4
